State Prize for Design to Mikko Kärkkäinen
Mikko Kärkkäinen is one of Finland’s prominent industrial designers.

He is the principal designer of Tunto Design, and his products are handmade at his workshop in Järvenpää. His focus is on lamps, light, and developing radical new concepts that combine the latest technology with wooden materials. One of his most famous designs is for LED lamps made of wood.
The state prize was awarded by the National Council for Architecture, Design and Environmental Art. The prize award ceremony hosted by Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen took place on 19 November at the Government Banquet Hall Smolna.
