Taike awards 500,000 euros in support for public art

Taike has awarded grants to art projects based on the “Percent for Art” principle. The grants were awarded to municipalities and companies, as well as one foundation. The amounts awarded ranged from 20,000 euros to 50,000 euros. A total of 25 applications were received.

The grants were awarded primarily to cover the costs of public art procured in connection with new construction projects and renovations. The largest grant amounts for art procurements were awarded to the Port of Turku's new ferry terminal, the renovation and new construction of a daycare centre in the Kasperi suburb of Seinäjoki, the new Swedish-language primary school in the City of Pietarsaari, and the daycare centre to be built in the City of Loviisa.

“Despite the challenging situation in the construction industry, the number of applications remained at the same level as in recent years, which is gratifying” says Antti Huntus, Special Advisor at Taike.

Due to cuts in appropriations, Taike has already announced that it will not distribute new grants for projects based on the “Percent for Art” principle in 2025. However, the agency will continue to promote and embed the “Percent for Art” principle through its expert work and strive to help find new sources of funding.

Taike grants are intended to cover the costs of procuring public art, as well as repair costs and development projects, based on the “Percent for Art” principle. The projects must be related to new constructions, renovations or infrastructure projects. The grants may cover a maximum of 50 percent of the project costs.
