Taike awards special subsidies for developing operations

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) has awarded 500,000 euros in special subsidies to a total of nine communities for 2025. The new types of development subsidies were awarded, for example, to projects aimed at uniting communities and creating new operating models for different fields of the arts.

Special subsidies were awarded to seven associations and two limited liability companies. The amounts awarded ranged from 40,000 euros to 70,000 euros. A total of 125 applications were received in response to the call for applications at the end of last year.

“The applications were generally of high quality and inspired confidence that many communities recognise the need and areas for development. The development subsidies will hopefully lead to small breakthroughs and serve as a guide for others,” says Kaisa Rönkkö, Director of Taike.

Special grants were awarded for development projects aimed at deeper collaborations and associations between actors in different fields of the arts, as well as for creating new operating models that aim, among other things, to strengthen the funding base, reach new audiences, and expand business expertise. Applications were evaluated by an expert panel.

“It would appear quite strongly that pressures to cut public finances are not decreasing, and those working in the arts should be aware of this. We at Taike see the arts sector as being at a turning point, and we want to support actors in shaping their own operations and structures to be more sustainable. For communities, this can happen very concretely, for example by hiring joint producers or joining forces in other ways. In these decisions, each subsidy recipient is backed by a wide range of partners. We will continue to try to support development work that aims for the continuity of operations through renewal,” says Kaisa Rönkkö.

This form of development funding is new. Previously, Taike has distributed special subsidies to individual projects within artforms.
