Artist Professor Reija Hirvikoski chairs curator group and jury at World Stage Design 2013

The World Stage Design exhibition presents original costumes, puppet characters, drawings, paintings and photographs, as well as lighting, video and audio solutions for the performing arts. The event attracts over hundred participants from 30 countries. This year’s exhibition is taking place from 5 to 15 September at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.

"This is the biggest event in the industry ever held in Great Britain", says Reija Hirvikoski, Artist Professor at the Arts Promotion Centre Finland. "Around 700 examples of performance design from over 50 countries around the world were proposed for the exhibition, and the jury selected a hundred of them."

Reija Hirvikoski served as chair of the curator group and jury for the exhibition.

Representatives from Finland who were selected for WSD2013 were costume designers Valinen, Marja Uusitalo, Anna Sinkkonen and Pirjo Liiri-Majava, scenographer Antti Mattila and sound designer Janne Auvinen.

In addition to the exhibition, WSD2013 presents theatre, opera and dance performances, including three from Finland: Susurro, a dance and sound costume performance created by the team of Pirjo Valinen (dress designer), Pirjo Yli-Maunula (dancer-choreographer), Jukka Huitila (light designer) and Aake Otsala (composer); It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, an animation and dance performance created by the team of Milla Virtanen (dancer-choreographer), Leevi Lehtinen (animation artist) and Anssi Laiho (composer); and LOVE.ABZ, a Google Translator language performance by Otso Huopaniemen.
